Precautionary measures and vitamins

If you want to get pregnant, or have just fallen pregnant, it is better to take care of your lifestyle. Extra vitamins will not go amiss. You should at least take folic acid in the first 2 months of pregnancy and is also useful to do so if you are trying to get pregnant. Folic acid provides for the production of new body cells and may reduce the baby’s risk of certain birth defects of the brain and spine (neural tube defects). Pregnancy symptoms – the first signs of pregnancy

Some women instinctively know they are pregnant. For others the news is a big surprise. You may notice some of the following signs:

  • Overdue period
  • Tender breasts
  • Nausea
  • More sensitive to smells
  • Tiredness
  • Clothing feels tighter (even in the early stages of pregnancy)
  • Light blood loss (1 to 2 days) due to implantation
  • Need to pass urine more frequently
  • Your body temperature remains high. (This would be noticeable if you are monitoring your body temperature)

How do I get pregnant?

You can get pregnant if you have sex during the period when you are fertile and have not used any form of contraception. The fertile period is just before and after the release of the egg. This is approximately 2 weeks before menstruation. If you want to get pregnant then it is better to have regular intercourse during the fertile period every 2 to 3 days when the quality of the sperm is optimal.
